Looks like your door opening and locking pads aren't making good contact or worse yet, excess use along with a few other factors can indicate time for a new remote. I've taken apart a lot of other remotes tinkering but have yet to have the need to take apart the Jag remote. There are a couple of vendors from Ebay who sell the remotes at good prices (I have used two of them with great success). I'd look to purchase new remotes versus used remotes as you might run into the same problem/issues. On the bright side you were able to program and get it to work! Congrats on another task completed.

My 2001 XJ8L I did all the steps several times got the blinking J gate light but still nothing from the remote, new battery & cleaned contacts, terminals. Guess it's time for a replacement.

In a semi-related question, can you change the battery in these remotes?

Update :

2001 XJ8L I get the flashing program light(no noticeable chirp though) on the shifter on each remote press that shows it's sending a signal. Yet when I remove the key & try the buttons none work,(checked contacts, battery all are good). Looks as if I need a new/replacement remote. I now know why the cat growls grrrrrrr lol.

So with the "learning/programming" light on the shifter console blinking with each press of the FOB remote that means it's sending a signal, so what else on the car can I check to remedy this.

The remote unlock/lock control module can be checked but with the right testing equipment it will do you no good to find it lol I don't know where the module is located on our car as I didn't have to pursue that avenue when programming my remotes.

You might want to purchase another remote--see if it programs and operate as it should. If it does, you know your current remote is dead. Good luck.
