XJR 2001 How to/tips on changing battery
Hi all,
After some searching I've noticed there can be issues changing batteries on some of the 2003+ Jags. I'm going to replace my 2001 XJR battery and wanted to know if it's as simple as swapping it out or if there are any tricks/tips to this process?
Also, any recommendations on the type of battery would be appreciated :-)
Thanks,
Troy.

I swapped mine out with no trouble.
Get a battery that is the same size and rating as the original from the factory.
Buy the best battery you can afford. Our cars use a lot of power and you can get some strange things happening when the battery does not supply sufficient power to all the computer systems in the car.
My old, non original battery did not have a vent tube and after reading on the forum that it should have one, I made sure the new battery came with the proper parts and tube for the vent.
The plastic vent tube is supposed to run from the battery through a hole in the bottom of the trunk, but after a thorough search I couldn't find anyplace for the vent to go, so I did not install it.
It has been 2 years now and I have had no problems.
Make sure the terminal connectors, floor of the battery compartment and hold down straps are clean and everything is good and tight. I sprayed some battery terminal protector on mine too.
Not sure if you should connect the positive or negative first, but I think it is positive first then negative. Then you will have to reset some memory functions like your auto down windows and such.

Thanks Vector,
My local autoparts shop had a 20% off everything deal this weekend, I grabbed a battery that has the same specs as the original Varta rc-170. It's probably not as good but has 2 years warranty.
I followed the user guide instructions and reaplaced the battery with no problems :-)
...thanks for your advice.
