XJR Gearbox Fault P0710
Hello all, I have recently bought my dads old XJR that he bought brand new in 1998.
It originally came as a no crank, it had the code P0705, I replaced the dual linear sensor and this let it fire up, happy days.... (I was rushing and snapped the connector for the J gate, this was replaced at the same time). I then reversed out the garage with no issues, then I put it in drive and up popped on the dash 'high gearbox temperature' and the car would not drive and not rev in drive. I got it back in the garage and scanned it, now have the code P0710.
I must have read about 1000 threads and came to the conclusion that the transmission conductor plate was broken, I have now swapped this, and also a new plug, fired it up and still have the same code, also wont drive, only reverse.
Another thing I noticed is the D light on the J gate is dim and its bright on every other letter/number, not sure if this has any relevance?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I had 'high gearbox temperature' (Daimler Super V8) and restricted performance a few years ago when my alternator failed and the voltage dropped to below 12V. Fixing the alternator fixed the issue. Is your alternator good, i.e. are you getting about 14V on the battery at idle? Also, check for any corrosion all connections along the main positive cable, from the battery, through the "mega fuse" box, at the false bulkhead connections, at the fuse boxes etc.

Thank you all for your help, I have thankfully cured the fault!!
When adjusting the gear linkage, I had done a really poor job, what through me is I had got rid of code PO0705 so assumed I had done it correct.
So in short, if your getting code P0710, try adjusting your linkage, I did it slightly different to the manual, I didn't undo it from the gearbox side, I just adjusted it so it slide into the correct J gate position if that makes sense?
Thanks again.
