Just purchased a 1999 XJR. Love this car. It came with a remote but wasn't working. I had the dealer try to program didn't work. Tried a new remote, new battery, 3 used control module. still doesn't work. I have followed the programing by pulling back the head lamp switch turn ign switch to the #1 position. flsh head lamps 4 time and the alarm beeps and the light comes on near the gearshift. But the remote doesn't make the alarm beep or the light flash near the gearshift. What else could the problem be ??

 

Check the wiring between the security module and the rear windscreen. If you look at the top of the rear screen you will see the top two elements are the alarm antenna. the security module is under the fuse box in the boot / trunk.

 

do you have the correct remote, pre -2000 and post 2000 cars have different ones from my personal experience.

 

Andrew, just checked that wire and its broken at the rear window. It just had a new roof lining installed before I bought it. Looks like that's how it was broken. Jaguar dealer is looking for one. Thank you so much for your help.

 

Just installed the new antenna wire from rear window to control unit. I now have three control units and two remotes. Switched them around and it still doesn't work. The red light near the gear shift comes on and the alarm beeps after I pull back the head lamp flash four times. But, the remote doesn't do a thing. What is next ??? 😣
