Default XJR/XJ8 engine tranny compatibility

Will any 98-03 XJR engine/tranny direct fit into a 03 XJ8? I ask because the engines on Ebay only show compatibility for a couple of years.
Bought my XJ8 with plans for a future LSx swap. Now thinking XJR swap would be just as fun and simpler. Also, looking at a salvage XJR nearby.

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat, I am looking for an X308 98-03 with either a blown motor or trans for an LSx swap

This has been covered a lot on these forums, especially the XJR drivetrain into an XJ8. Here's just one thread from a little while ago https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...hassis-245704/

Do some research: you will find it is much (MUCH) harder than it sounds: probably cheaper to visit one of the auction sites or on-line for a good XJR . . . and bank your experience on bringing the current 308 up to standards and as a parts locker . . .

After reading on this forum for 8 years I will attest there are lots of threads for swaps, including Chevy truck engines, all expensive and heart breaking . . . unlike back in the day when we could drop a hemi into 32 coupe, it is the electronics at issue . . .

I'm going to guess neither of you 2 has looked in The Marketplace (top task bar next to NEW)? Not only for just a motor, but the whole car and as Jim says, its much cheaper, easier and takes a ton less time to just buy and XJR.

To wax philosophical, sometimes it's the journey, not the destination.
