Default 1994 xj6 wont start

Hey guys ive got a 1994 xj6 and i disconnected the battery because the alarm went off. Now the car wont start. I dont hear anything. The dashboard lights come on and the security system light stays lit but the car dosnt start. Is this a security issue or what? i really need help on this one. Heard this is kind of a common issue. Anyone else having this going on?

OK, first things first, you are NEW, so welcome.

Your '94 XJ6 is toooooo new for this area, as it is either an XJ40, or a very early X300.

To identify. Does it have spark plug leads (XJ40), or does it have 6 coils under a plastic cover with "Jaguar" embossed in it (X300).

Once this is identified, one of the Moderators will hopefully move this to the correct area to maximise answers specific to your model.

Either way it sounds like the security system is having a hissy.

I have NO hands on with that, as mine does what it should at all times, but "sometimes" disconnecting the battery again, ensuring ALL the doors are closed, and reconnection has the desired effect.

Glacebeatz,

Now you've confirmed it's an XJ40, I've moved your thread from XJ6 Series I, II & III section to XJ40 section.

The guys here should be able to advise on the non-start.

Glacebeatz:
Welcome to the forum. I would first check the Inertia Switch under the driver's side footwell behind the fusebox. If that is tripped, the car will not start. There is a little knob on the top that will pop up if tripped. Push it back down and see what happens.

Also, if you plan to keep this car any length of time, you should get a Haynes manual at a minimum. It will at least get you pointed in the right directions for issues such as these. And believe me, this is not going to be a maintenance-free car; but it is a fun and rewarding one.

Cheers,
Scott

Glace, just press the Security Button on your key holder And that security light should cut off up there, and it should start right up. i always had to press that button EveryTime i reconnect the battery. Hope that helps

There are two fuse boxes on either side of the car on the outer sides of the footwells. Under the drivers side, behind the fusebox, is the inertia switch. If it is tripped, the car will not crank. It's probably not your problem, but is certainly is the first thing to check.

...And, get yourself a Haynes manual.

NO, NO, NO.

The dealers down here want NOTHING to do with any Jaguar that is more than 5 years out of factory warranty.

If I cant fix it, it aint broke.

Nope, not at all. I took it to the dealership. Just found out its the computer module. cost about $900. So i guess thatll take care of it. Just cant wait till i can drive it on the road again.
