Default '90 VDP Battery drain.... Just a heads up!!!

My "new" Jag was having an intermittent battery drain. I could go out and start it in the mornings and throughout the day with no problems, then for several days in a row the battery would be dead, not just low, but DEAD! I went through the forum and found a few inputs, but my gut was telling me it was something different than what I found described, sure enough it was.

The car had sat for several years and things were kind of gummed up. It turns out the key (mechanical and electrical parts) were built up with sludge and the key had some slop in it from the off position to the start position and wasn't turning off completely.

I removed the locking tumbler, sprayed electrical cleaner and WD 40 into the locking shaft, replaced the tumbler and worked the key back and forth to work in the WD40. I put a fresh charge on the battery and crossed my fingers. I went out the next morning and BAM! She started right up. I went through several starts and stops for the rest of the day with the car sitting for a couple of hours at a time. No problems, none!

I did this one week ago and not the first sign of battery drain since.

I hope this helps anyone with a battery drain gremlin they can't find.

replace the interlock relay, it is very common for it to develop an internal short and remain energized after all is turned off.
a common issue with 93 to 98 land rovers we often remove it all together with out further complications.

according to my diagramm on haynes manual it should be under the front pass seat to the far right, relay # 3
#1 right seat heater relay
#2 left seat heater relay
#3 key lock solenoid relay
#4 gear shift solenoid relay
