92 xj6 air conditioner loud noise,poor cooling,low fan
Hello everyone I have been on this site many times and have found many threads useful so I have finally registered.
The problem is my a/c. When I bought it a few months ago the a/c was very cold but made this rumbling noise when engaged. I ran it for a while off and on and now it is very loud even on low and it pretty much blows no cold air most of the time. the vents push minimal air thru. I have been doing research and think it might be the blower motor. The noise is coming from inside the glove compartment behind the black casing... a silver box shaking. its noticeable from the engine compartment too. I would love to hear some ideas about cost conscious diagnosis and any suggestions. Its the R-12 refrigerant. I'll probably convert it to 143a when I have the money but for now im baking everytime I ride. and not just from the weed. what do I need to check the pressures, etc. help is very much appreciated.

Kaniela, I'm new to this site and to Jags but I had a very similar incident a couple of years ago in a Chrysler LHS. I removed the blower motor and found that the shaft end bearing (sintered bronze) was shot. The resulting vibration had actually worn away part of the motor housing.
One other thing, when you change car's AC from R-12 to R-134A make sure it (the R-12) is properly recovered because the EPA fines for "improper" release are OMG stiff!

thanks brother i appreciate the input. im gunna go to a junk yard and wrench off a blower motor that looks good and put it on. i dont think the a/c is leaking cuz i checked the other day to see if the a/c blows cold and it still kinda does and it hasnt really been engaged much in months. the air coming out of the vents moves so slow i think its just not pushing the cold air thru. can you tell me if you need to drain the a/c in order to replace the blower motor? cuz if not i can just top it off with freeze 12 replacement R-12 and a junkyard blower and be on my way. less than a 100 bucks is my estimate. $60 for the freeze 12 kit online and $40 or so for the blower off a junked jaguar.
