Dear xj40 drivers,
I rarely steep this side of 1986 as I own a series 3 and series 1. However im seriously considering putting a 4.0 aj6 and box into my series 3. Im wondering if I will run into any immobilizer problems if I dont use half of the xj40's computers / modules and key?
I believe some xj40's had key transponder chips from factory like later models? Is this correct? I dont want to use the xj40 barrel in the car and the car im looking at pillaging the running gear from doesnt have a barrel or key anyway.
So, did xj40's have factory immobilizers and if so how hard are they to bypass or do i need to keep all the modules and computers and key hooked up so the thing will run?
Thanks allot,
Jay

Hi, you may need to be more specific as to the year of the donor car. The xj40 had more and more computer controlled equipment fitted as the years went by. My '91 Daimler has nearly all options fitted and only has remote central locking and no alarm or immobiliser, I think they were fitted '92 and later. Someone here will know for sure.
Imo you should just need the engine computer and trans computer, someone here will know for sure. Even if it has an immobiliser you would only need to wire in a switch or a wire and relay from your ignition on wire from your barrel to the corresponding wire to the computer to switch it on and off.
Hope this helps,
Troy
