Default heated seats are jerks:(

i have 1990 jag vanden plas. and the whole time i have owned it the heated seats have not gotten warm once. and well it is very aggravating. just the front seats are heated. when i pushed the heat button the lights would come on and stay on for like ten min and then turn off. and today i tore the drivers seat apart andthe pads have no burn marks or indications of any thing broken i found the little thermostat and it has power on both sides. so i cut the wires leading to the switch they did not have power going to eiather so connected the seats to another power source and still no heat. wtf is going on. i live in washington and it gets nippy here and i have a girlfriend that hates the cold and i want to fix them cause i don't have much money to buy new stuff PLEASE help oh and can i bypass the thermostat and turn the heat off manually from the switch?

You probobly have a open in the grids, ohm them out. Theyre aftermarket units out there that are pretty cheaped compared to jag.

i have been reading and it seems that if you put a 15k om resistor on the ground i think it will send a differant signal and it will get otter has anyone heard this? i got my passenger seat to warm up but not the back rest?

I haven't heard of that, no...but that doesn't mean anything.

You probably have open grids as Brutal said. Very common. Since the seats are already apart just get some aftermarket grids and be done with it, IMHO

Both my seat heaters are dead. New grids are $377 per seat from Jaguar. I'm ordering aftermarket...hopefully and supposedly decent quality...$120 for both seats.

Cheers

REplace the thermostat with a fuse, 10 or 15 amps, they plug right in on my XJ8.
