i have a 94 xj6 and the other day i took my hood off my car to do some body work to it and wet sand it. well left it outside and it rained. my car started sputtering. i took it to the shop and they said thagt it was the distributor cap, rotor, and spark plug wires. i replaced all of it and now the engine idles fine but when i apply gas it tends to sputter. im guessing electrical problem? any ideas of what it could be?
Electrical problem? . . . good guess.
I would suggest using a can of WD40 to spray all the connectors you can find. The WD stands for 'water displacing' which was what it was originally designed for. Other than that, a good day in the sun and/or idle until it is completely warm.
After that we can pull the engine and look for more difficult problems.
