Question My 94 xj6 having starting problems

Here's the back ground a few days ago she just would not start not even trying to start. She did make a noise and it was just for a second. So I pulled out the starter and got it tested and the motor was good but the solenoid was bad. So i got a new starter and put in. But now it still will not start and it make a new noise like it wants to turn but can't. It also last about a second. is it a relay or do i have to do something with the starter?

Check your connections and relay for sure. If that's not it, could be your ignition switch.

EFrazen,

Sorry if this sounds basic, but how confident are you about the battery?

The battery has a good charge it says 12.4 and and doesn't go down past 10 and jumps back to 12 as it recharge. I may have the starter hooked up wrong if anyone has a picture of how the 4 wires hook up to the starter that would help. The problem is when i turn the key it makes a click noise but engine will not turn. I even rotated the engine with a breaker bar and same problem.

Okay i found out what the problem was. I got a rebuilt from the auto part store. The part had a lifetime warranty. The part was a match with the core. But i didn't check the teeth of the new starter. So after days of trying to figure it out. I took it back to the auto part store and we checked the starter and battery and both was good. So then we were looking at the teeth of the starter to see if they were jammed or stuck. No nothing. So then i checked the fly wheel teeth and found that the fly wheel had smaller teeth then the new starter. So they reordered me a new starter from Bosch. I measured both teeth and the Bosch was a bit smaller then the other one. I put it in and it fired right up. So make sure you check the teeth on a starter as well as the frame.
