My car is a 1993 XJ-40 w.a 4.0 six. I sent it to a Dealer in the Seattle area who totally screwed up the car when all it needed was a radiator hose. Suffice it to say my ECU was destroyed beyond repair (according to the scam company in Florida I sent it to, anyway, who said they could "build me a new one" and then they didn't). Still trying to find a reputable company, so my car can be driven again. The last numbers on the VIN are 66692. Thank you..
Are you talking about the actual engine management ECU (it says "15CU control unit" and shows a part number of DBC10782 on the top of the metal case)?
If so there are a few listed on ebay. Just search for "Jaguar DBC10782"
If this is not what you are talking about then provide us with a part number off the ECU you are having issues with and then we can direct you better.
Hi - Mine is DBC 10642 and I have found several so far. I ordered one from a reputable Jag parts place in Calif., so we'll see soon if it's going to work. Thanks for the help! I understand there's an upgraded ECU approved by Jaguar . .perhaps your # is one of those? Mike
Well, the new (used) ECU was installed today and the engine did exactly the same thing - ran poorly w/the MAF connected and much better when disconnected - but still not right. I did notice that the radio did not ask for the CODE to be punched in first (and this was the first thing I noticed when I started the car at the Dealer in Seattle when I went to bring it home). I know they bypassed the security code for some reason - they were given it when I delivered the car to them a year ago. I wonder if this has something to do with it running badly? Ideas are very welcome - Thanks.
I've read that the Cruise Control Dump valve is suspect when the MAF is plugged in and it runs awful. I disconnected the vacuum hose to the throttle mechanism and capped it off and ran it. That made no difference but I wondered if the dump valve, which also has wiring to it, should be totally disconnected from the engine also. Would that make the difference, if so? That dump valve was installed about 15 years ago and I think it was used at the time. Thank you.
