RE: This is PRICELESS...
Actually, I think the whole Lucas thing is waaaaay overblown ! Not false, mind you....but overblown
When I think of all the repairs I've made to the three Jags I've owned, over a span of 10 years or so, electricals were the very least common and problematic. I think I owned my first XJ6 for 3 years before I even had to replace a light bulb.
The unforgivable fault with Lucas, IMHO, was the use of non-sealed bullet connections for years after better alternatives were available. The legend would've died decades ago except for those connectors.....
Its a little amusing, though, when Jag owners (especially X300 owners)complain about Lucas quality and failure rates.....until someone points out that the item they are bitching about is actually Bosch or Nippondenso .
Cheers

RE: This is PRICELESS...
Peeled of the decal on my MAF an the xj40 a couple of years ago think it said bosch under there and i must say the old jaguars upto xj serie 3 and the xjs arent to fun to work on but the biggest problem was always bad connections
If a light isnt working on an serie 3 xj6 i can almost assure you the there is nothing wrong whith the bulb.....
Newer cars though are extremely nice to work on the electronics I think Ford gave Lucas some spanking.
the X300 car had CAN (controlled area network) as early as 1995 Volvo introduced this in 1999 and they have some big problems whith communication betwen different ECM´s and that´s almost a zero issue on the Jags
