Default Replacement intermediate Muffler

Have been trying to find intermediate left-side muffler for my 1989 Daimler (XJ6). There appear to be two parts -- CBC 5391 for vehicles with catalytic converters and CBC 2805 for those without converters. Am assuming that my car has a converter -- can't verify since it is currently in Europe. Have possibly found source for CBC 2085 -- non cat converter -- but am concerned that it would not be appropriate for my vehicle. Can any anyone help please.

Thanks

Is there someone you could ask to look under the hood for you? They're not hard to spot. There are 2 on the exhaust Y pipe and then 2 just past the transmission underneath (on mine in USA). I suspect that whatever government laws were in effect at the time where and when your car was sold new would be a fairly sure tell. Good luck

Many thanks for your input. Research indicated that EU rules would have required catalytic converter in 1989. Asked friendly local mechanic who services my XK8 here in the US whether I could use the non cat muffler since the only apparent difference was a heat shield which could doubtless be transferred from the old to the replacement muffler. He agreed that this should be doable so I've gone ahead and ordered the non cat version. Once the installation has been attempted I'll report the results since it may help others -- the CBC5391 is virtually impossible to find.

Bought CBC 2805 non-catalytic silencer. It needed some modification -- apparently it's longer than the CBC5391 -- but the local (non-Jaguar) garage was able to install it in a couple of hours. Am enjoying the quieter sound of the engine!!
