Replacement Tires

Going on the title I simply could not resist.
"Black, round, plenty of tread"
Now seriously.
Your market will dictate what you can get, and what is good.
I have used Yokohama with mixed results. Mainly on the XJ-S.
I have Duro? on the X300 at the moment, and no complaints, wet or dry. On it when I got it 3 years ago.
The XJ-S currently has Goodyear Roadhugger, and at 10 years and 100kms no complaints.
Michelin I hated, very thumpy.
Maxim are fine and on the XJ40, quiet.
Kelly on the Daimler were/are EXTRA GOOD. No longer imported here, so same issues as you soon I suppose.
Others that know where you are may give more suggestions better related.

I found some Kumho Solus kr21 readily available for a decent price, so I gave them a try. I do NOT recommend them at all! They are the noisiest tires I've ever had.
The car had Uniroyal Tiger Paws on it before and they were pretty good. Too bad I couldn't find any.
That's my 2 cents worth, hope it helps.

What size are you after? And what characteristics do you most admire in a tire? Tread life? Wet traction? Quietness?
And where are you? Different tires are sold in different parts of the world.
Cheers

Thank you Grant. Goodyear has always been a good tire on the truck, so thats what I'll try next.
Sorry Doug I should have been a bit clearer. Currently we are 35 miles East of the center of the lower 48 states, that will change to the GPNW in about a year. Longest trip the Jag takes is from Central IL to Indianapolis and down to St. Louis a couple of times a year. Although if the Death Race is still on this Sep. I might take it down to Tucson and race the Catrike Expedition. Long mileage and wet weather traction is probably what I'm looking for in a tire.

last year i put 4 goodyear eagle gt on my 1995 x300 and noticed a vast improvement over pirelli and yokohama as far as handling is concerned .
tough they did not last very long : about 15k miles or so.
as i plan to put a vortech on the car next year i verified that the 7" stock wheels can take the 255/50 16 made by goodrich. i expect though them to last less than 10k miles

Before purchasing tires, take a look at the reviews and especially the tests at www.tirerack.com. It is an excellent and huge source of information on tires - maybe the biggest and best on the web.
I think it's important to objectively research tires before you buy. It's not like you're buying a pair of shoes that you can try on and walk around on before paying for them. With tires, you pay hundreds of dollars and you're stuck with them for years. For that reason, you must choose wisely!
