Default Soon to be 89 XJ6 owner quick question

Well, it looks like I'll be picking up my first Jag tomorrow an 89 xj6. All in all in very nice shape. I've owned a Range Rover Classic for 7 years so I'm no stranger to the electrical gremlins that seem to plague the british vehicles.

All the minor things that are wrong with the car I have a handle on through experience and searching the forum except for one.

The first time I looked at the cat the climate control worked fine. The second time it had no blower motors at all. The fuse had blown and the owner replaced it and it popped again within a minute. From my reading I'm guessing honestly that there is a connection that has shorted or a relay that has gone south. I wanted to see if anyone else had additional insight on this one.

I appreciate the assist on the fix and look forward to contributing what I can in the future.

Greetings,

That's a bit hard to cypher...there are two separate blower motors in your car, each with its' own fuse. What fuse is failing, and do the LEDs on your climate control panel remain illuminated?

I don't recall which position it was but it was the passenger side kick panel fuse block. The climate control remained illuminated and appeared to be functioning, when I switched from manual to auto. I also heard the the servo move when I took it out of defrost.

I'm picking it up tomorrow, afternoon for $800 all in all very clean just a few minor electrical gremlins to sort out. Of course no British car is complete without a few of those

If it's the 20a fuse for the right blower motor...the VCM calls that "fuse failure 1", which is the right side fusebox...then the blower motor is probably siezed. That also suggests the left blower isn't working either, since you will still hear one fan running but notice insufficient airflow in every mode.

The blower motors on these cars suck, they used to fail often when the cars were still under warranty, and it's not unheard of for a car to have two bad motors. The left one might just have worn brushes, and once in a while you can get them to run for an instant if you kick them. The right one is likely siezed.

I was figuring one might be shorted out and that was what was blowing the fuses good to know I'm on the right track with the repair needed. I appreciate the advice JagTech.
