The gas struts on my Sovereign's trunk have definitely seen better days.
As I'm looking for replacement struts, I noticed that the Jaguar made BEC13514 struts way too expensive (120 euros/piece).
After market versions don't seem to be readily available in Europe.
It's strange that almost every gas strut out there has multiple after market alternatives available, but these don't.
I know URO made them in the past, but they seem to have been discontinued.
What am I missing?
Does anyone have experience with fitting other struts, that don't necessarily fit the BZC13514 description?
Rock auto has them, cheap even with international shipping. May as well get some for the hood to average out/cut shipping cost. You need to order them by length and power, not by car make model as they aren't listed in the Rock auto car part catalog.
Check the specs printed on yours if poss.
I fitted new trunk and hood ones as I got fed up of being clouted on the head. Mine came from rockauto and they are great. The hood and trunk lid basically self-lift with very little effort. A great upgrade.
Thanks for the top tip! I ordered a pair of Strongarm 4384 right away.
Even with shipping and import taxes they should be a lot cheaper than the Jaguar parts.
That website looks like it's still 1998, though...

That might be true, but the content and mechanics of it work rather well, don't you think? So many sites these days are glorified adverts set up to look pretty on the latest device - Rock Auto OTOH supplies more parts than any other supplier worldwide I should think.
Fast cheap shipping too.
