Default $50,000 Series 1

Wow, is this guy dreaming! Most I have heard of anyone paying for a Series 1 is 18,000 and that car had over $50,000 spent on it.

Here is a more realistic price, but it has been for sale for as long as I can remember.
That must tell the seller the price is too high.

They're both nice cars, but I think I like the blue one better. Both are premium cars, by the look of them, & deserve to fetch a good price, with the blue car close to what it's worth. But the white car? What a joke!

The white XJ is priced with one too many 0s at the end... Fireball was in better condition just after the fire brigade had given her a wash!

The blue XJ is more realistic, but both cars seem to have a non working handbrake, as they are in 1st gear for the photos.

But hey... God loves a tryer.

wow. For once I am ahead of the curve. I knew that series 1 xj cars were undervalued but is there a new appreciation for these cars?

For that kind of money it better hare 1970 air in the tires, 1970 coolant in the radiator and play nothing but 1970 music.

That house being renovated in the background of the White xj6 is in Sackville Street Kew, not far from where I live.

I see a couple of S1, S2 & S3's out and about pretty regularly, but I can't say that I have seen that one.

He's not dreaming, he just thought that it was April Fool's Day :-)

Cheers,

Nigel

I think the white one is definitely dreaming. The blue one would be worth negotiating a few grand off......maybe.

before I bought my car I looked at 5 or 6 series 1 cars that were for sale in a 200 mile radius. Good ones are getting hard to find and I have heard stories of clean cars being exported back to England and Europe because demand is high and rust free examples are hard to find.Maybe high prices are a sign of things to come.

At that stage I was in for about $2900 including 12 months rego......closer to the $17k mark these days. Realistically I would think of advertising in the $15k range and negotiating if I were in the market to sell.

I still don't think it is worth $20k, no mention of resto work carried out.

This one had a ground up restoration of more than $50k and was for sale for $25k. A forum member paid $18k for it.

We can live in hope.

Here is another dreamer, I have seen this car and it looks better in the photos. It has a very odd looking XK engine.

Odd looking XK engine if it were an XK engine.

Small Block V8 from where I'm looking.

As to the rest of the car? Looks like it has been chopped and changed a lot.

Wheels, Steering wheel, Front Grille, Pedals, Air horns, plus everything else under the bonnet which has been moved -Brake Fluid Reservoir- apart from that looks pretty factory standard

Both cars are definitely sporting 4.2 XK Mills. Those cam covers are unmistakeable. I like the shot with the guy in a Tux that looks like it was taken by a security camera. Very James Bond & quite tastefully done, which is hard to pull off with 007, & usually looks cheesy. Still not worth $50K though.

I know it is a SBC, I looked at the car with a mate a few months ago. The seller had no idea what he is selling, told us it was a Jaguar engine.
We thought a $5000 car, max. Many S1-2-3's around in a lot better shape and all asking $3-$10k.

Third listing shown. Lumped auto, not XK 4.2 manual.

Hi Clarke,

I wasn't questioning whether you knew that it wasn't a jag engine.

Sorry if I offended.

Cheers,

Nigel
