Default 1974 xj12l choke ?

I recently bought a 1974 xj12 with a 350 conversion that was done in the late 80's. I'm cleaning up some loss ends. There is a stem or lever on the left side of the dash with 2 Bowden cables that goes out through the firewall. Was this for a choke?

Yes.

If my memory serves well, that is. Sometimes things get hazy. But I do remember that they used a manual choke and it was operated by a lever under the dash

Cheers

+ heaps.

1 cable to each bank of the real engine.

Slick, and humor appreciated. Did not realize manual chokes lived on to the 70's!!!
The last car I had with a cable choke was my 69 Toyota FJ40 Land cruiser. It also had a manual throttle. I used it as a primitive cruise control.

But, this post does jog my memory back to early "auto chokes". A bitmetalic spring in
a housing with a pipe from the exhaust. Fussy with age. Kits sold to convert to manual via Bowden cable.

Thanks everyone for confirming my thoughts. I'll be removing it next to clean things up.

Or, just to confuse the issue. Repurpose? What feature, I'm not sure.

I promptly cut mine out, it was annoyingly in the way of the most used feature in the car ( the hood lever )
