Default 1986 XJ6 motor problems

I have a low mileage (86000) that had sat for two years. Changed plugs. Drove car around. Won't idle when first started (have to pump gas pedal) when warmed up runs sluggishly. If turned off will not restart till motor cools. Under hood seems extremely hot but coolant temp gauge is normal range. Thoughts please?

I'd begin by removing the fuel filter and emptying the contents into a clean container. What you see (or don't see) will determine your next steps

Fuel contamination. In this case, rust...most likely. Tank rust is quite common on any car that sits unused and doubly so on these old Jags, it seems.
