72 S1 Found, Let the Adventure Begin
I believe I've found the problem...the needle is stuck on the rear ZS carb. Fuel was overflowing into the air cleaner after getting the Cat started with starting fluid. Engine ran nicely, but I shut it off for fear of a fire. Parts ordered.
Also ordered new brake hoses and tranny pan gasket.
Baby steps...but soon taking her out for first real drive.

So that was the needle in the float chamber? That happens quite often on my Minis (fitted with twins). And usually after the car has sat around idle for a while.
I have heard of people tapping (banging?) the chamber with a wrench, to fix that sticky little problem!

Aye, taps leading up to bangs is an old tech means of dealing with a sticking float bowl needle in many carb'd critters. often avoids taking it apart and freeing the needle and/or float pin.

I'll try the Percussive Maintenance before disassembly.
On a side note, what's everyone thoughts for a product to put on leather seats that are a bit dry. I'll bet it's been awhile since they've seen any treatment.

Someone told me Neatsfoot Oil is the go.
I bought some for my upholstery, that has been cooked in the relentless Ozzie sun.
But I did not bother. The leather is too far gone, falling apart like cereal biscuit.
Nothin' that four grand won't fix, I guess.

I’ve had great results with this on an E-Type I used to have in UK and now on my current XJ6 series 3. They have a US store for sales to Canada and USA, and a UK store for rest of world.
Hi everyone...hope you've had a great weekend.
Percussion didn't work on the ZS's so I'll have to drop the bowl and change out that needle. Part has arrived so hopefully tomorrow.
I've been searching the web for a vacuum hose kit for the S1 and have not had any success. Anyone know the size(s) needed. I saw someone on the forum had done theirs in red, but the link to their provider was dead.
I've noticed on the car the windshield wiper spindles where they pass through the cowl have some movement and have no gasket. Would this leak into the interior? Searched Moss Classic Jaguar but saw no mention of a gasket.

She runs!!! Big smile here.
The needle was indeed the problem. Idles nice. All the gauges came to life except the fuel gauge. Took her for a short drive...very little brakes, so that is next task on the list. I'm going to replace the rubber part of the brake lines and check the vacuum line to the brake booster.
Cheers!

Hi all. Brief update. As I work my way through all the basic service and safety checks/repairs before I take her for a first drive, I had to laugh when she "peed" on my foot. I was putting a couple of gallons of gas (no ethanol! We can still get that here!!) in each tank when I notice as I was pouring in on the left side, after about 1/2 gallon it starting pouring out the bottom! Oh well, those weeds needed to die anyway! So glad I wasn't at a gas station filling up!
Another week, then I'm taking a weeks vacation to give her some real attention. That is after I get the wife's Mini Cooper thermostat change done. OMG those cars are a PINA to work on!
New left side fuel tank now on "The List".
Cheers

LOL! So true. Got to enjoy the process or what's the point.
Taming the beast, getting her pretty and taking her for long drives will be all worth it in the end.
