I was removing the head off my 1974 jaguar xj6 the other day and *** I was lifting the head I heard a Metallic like break and as I went to inspect I found that the cam sprocket hangers were both broken from the top, I need some advice weather I should just get it welded back on or replace the timing assembly (can’t find one around), and or if there’s anyone in the Sydney area in New South Wales that work on these xk engines that can come help me out that would be absolutely amazing, That’s the upper half that’s broken
Wel, having worked on two Jaguar engines, and also been into Jaguars since 1979, your post is the first I've read about anyone breaking this part !!
The part is an aluminium casting, and may be weldable. If not you'll just have to try and find another one. I don't think there is anything special about the part, it should be interchangeable on any XK engine.
Does it really matter? The only function of this part seems to be to retain the drive sprocket once detached from the cam. why not just leave it as is?
Where in Sydney are you? I am in Bowral and have a spare series 1 engine partly dismantled. It has cracks between the bores so I may never use it.
