87 Jaguar xj6
My 1987 Jaguar xj6 would not start, after playin around with a few things it started, it ran very rough but started, then died, wouldn't start again.
After much advice I purchased and installed a coolant temp. sensor. after installing it I turned the key, did not touch the gas, and it started, ran rough but started. When I tried to give it gas it died. I started it again, let it run on its own until it reached about 70 C. It then increased its idle on its own, smoothed out, then died. Without touching the gas, I started it again, running rough I gave it gas manually, it hesitated at first then increased in RPM, I reved it and reved it then let it idle, after a min. or so, again its idle reved slightly, then died. I then tried to start it but it would not even act like it wanted to, in my opinion I think it didn't start because it was to warm, something that got warm, I think wouldn't allow it to start.... Any thoughts ?

Can you confirm your car is the XJ Series 3 saloon and not the model that replaced it, (less curvy, much more "squared-off"). The fuel and ignition systems on these two are completely different to each other.
I'm assuming that 'Ventura' is Ventura, California and from that assuming that your 1987 is a Series III.
The 'could be' list is long. Here's something easy to check: make sure that the ducting from the air flow meter to the throttle body is secure and not split open.

Check all vacuum connections and basic serviceable items are clean/fresh/new like filters, spark plugs, HT leads.
Check fuel supply isn't compromised by a blocked filter or faulty pump caused by rust in the tanks clogging it up.
Always eliminate the basic things before diving in the deep end, make sure you have fuel and spark, there is no vacuum leaks and wiring connections are all good
