Default Aftermarket AC for 73 Series 1 (HELP)

I have a well restored 73 Series 1 albeit with a standard Chev small block and 700R4 trans. All is good except the AC. My reading suggests that even a well running Series 1 AC unit isn't going to be a match for a So Cal summer day. I therefore am looking to install an aftermarket unit, preferably one that is AC and heat combined. At first glance space seems to be a problem, although I'm okay if the unit encroaches in the passenger side footwell a little (I'm never sitting on that side anyway). I would love to hear from people who have done aftermarket AC units for their cars and get their advice on what works, what doesn't work, and why. Feel free to chime in if you think it's worth it to just rebuild the factory unit (but it's going to take a lot of convincing). Also curious if anyone has tried one of the aftermarket rear units.

what works with any a/c system is replacing the compressor, condenser, evaporator, expansion valve, and accumulator (or receiver-drier), and Heater valve. In addition, the blower fan.

In your car, move the battery to the trunk and mount the evaporator / heater core where the battery was. Use the same controls and vents.

contact www.retroair.com in Texas for advice and parts. .

Check out the posting from Kriss Motors, they did an excellent job on a S1 XJ. They have great CAD drawings showing where to cut and where to mount the Vintage Air System. I have the VA electronic heater servo already in my '71 XJ. Hopefully this "link" Kriss Motors - Jag Restomod will get you there easily. I would use the VA vent with the controls and place it in the center tray instead, since I would not be changing my dash
