Default air conditioning compressor

Hi all,
84 sovereign 4.2l petrol efi.
Does anyone know if the compressor belt can be removed and left off?
Obviously, it can, I mean, as mine is out of gas and I assume has been for some time, I'd like to at least disconnect the belt or preferably, remove the compressor completely. And leave it off.
I know on some vehicles, the compressor even when not running can chew up 5-10 odd kW, and more when running.

I usually don't bother with air con anyway, but it's getting cooler here now anyway. If I get it working again, I'd likely want a new compressor, but that is months away if at all.

Just need to replace the belt you have with a shorter one to leave the compressor out of the loop.

Mine has separate belts for air, alternator and steering.
I'd personally not change it if anything else was on it, ie air and alternator using 1 belt.
It's specifically because they are all separate I ask. I've not seen this arrangement before.

If you have one belt driving the compressor then just remove it unless there is a balance and tension issue.

Memory, haha.

A/C is its own belt.
Water pump/Power steer is one belt.
Alternator is one belt.

yes, you can remove the compressor belt, but you will have to remove the fan belt first, and then refit it.

an easier way is just to cut it, but why murder a belt like that?

Or, just leave it be. If the compressor clutch is not engaged, the load is insignificant.
