Default Analyzer compatibility question

My uncle has a modern analyzer and we are trying to figure out if we can hook my 1985 xj6 to it. My car has a studdering problem and we have all but ruled out a fuel issue, so we are trying to get it analyzed, but we arent sure if modern analyzers will work.

If the tool is an OBDII code reader, no it won't work.

Nope. No port to hook up to.

My lump is OBD I. It has a port. But, data stream only, no diagnostics.
One must interpret the data stream data. I have a "reader" for it. Very neat.

The only analyzer you could use, is an old-fashioned exhaust gas analyser and a good old multi-meter.
No fancy CANBUS or other electronic monitoring systems in these babies, sorry...
