Default Audio and radio issues!

The radio in my new (to me) XJ6 wasn't working so well, so I decided to put in one of those tape to aux devices into the cassette slot, which I've done on my past 3 cars. Well, not only did it not work and get stuck in the tape slot, when I did eventually get it out, my radio no longer works at all, it won't even turn on.

I'm at my witts end, because I really enjoy music when I drive. I either need some advice on installing a new car stereo, or a quick fix to my current car stereo.

looks like you have a XJ40, (4 liter engine), this forum is for XJ6 from 1968 to 1987 (4.2 liter engines).

Post in the XJ40 forum, you'll get better advice there.

My VIN reads 1989 XJ6, so how is it an XJ40?

Jaguar used "XJ6" for a long time on different cars. To help clarify what model is in question the engineering designation is sometimes uses, such as XJ40 or X300.

Cheers

Hey Nick,
welcome to the forum!

Identification of Jaguar XJ's can be a hassle sometimes for people who are new to the make.

XJ Series 1 through 3 look similar to this (series III):

XJ40 Series looks like this (square headlights being the older ones):

X300 is this (308 nearly the same look):

Everything newer ( since Tata Steel took over), I will not describe....
