Hi all,

I want to change the oil and filter in the auto gearbox of my 1984 4.2 XJ6.

I live in the UK so am looking for a good supplier for Jag parts in general if anyone can point me in the right dirtection ?

Also, is there anything that i should / shouldnt do, torx settings, fluid type etc etc

Cheers in advance.

Most prefer Type F or Type FA fluid.

The filler tube is attached to the transmission by with a big nut....which can be a real bear to break free. On reassembly don't go crazy with the torque....just one good tug of the wrench after snugging the nut. Just ''nip it up" as the saying goes.

Cheers
DD

Just nip works for me. Been there. Took work and a small stilson to remove the filler tube.
Next time will be simple

There are a few good parts suppliers in the UK. I use S N G Barratts in Bridgenorth 01746 765432 (they also remanufacture parts - some of which are "no longer available") and David Manners in Wolverhampton 0121 5444040.

Nomenclature oddities:

Stillson. yeah, that means something to me. AKA "pipe wrench". A basic tool in a plumber's box. I have a few. Old guys. used a couple in fixng the piping on my "big' air compressor.

Monkey wrench. Interesting device in fable and reality. " A monkey wrench in the works" screwed things up. Another tale says that a general work shop had a guy working there that went by the name. "monkey". He invented a wrench. It got his "name". Similar to a pipe wrench. Adjustable jaw. But, no teeth and no flex.

Many confuse the two similar but different tools. I peruse the Craiglist adds for fun. Saw one claiming the tool was a monkey wrench. No, not so, merely a pipe wrench.

Useless trivia, yeah, I suppose.
