Console female close latch
Read somewhere in this forum that you could substitute an automatic clothes drier door latch when the Jag latch breaks. Well it's true!. I went to my local Maytag man and he just gave me one FREE. Snaps right into place and works great.
He did look at me funny when I asked if it came in black.

yeahh, that was me who discovered it by accident when I was fixing my dryer door, something looked very similar, both of the parts are identical other than the color, and yes, they come in black, you just went to the wrong appliance store.
Me too, as to observation on my dryer's latch as I messed with swapping in a new drive bet.
But, there is none in place on my car. Seems unneeded, the lid stays in place by mere gravity.
I did consider, for a brief instant, using magnetic latches as found in cabinetry.
When I scratch built a short console for my IHC Scout II, I used the magnetic type latch. It worked just fine.

1. The ones I have in mind are pure mechanical with no electric function.
2. Naah, the one on the A post, drivers side, on my car quit. I messed with it a time or two with limited success. The post is just too sloppy in the bore. At one time, pushing on it sideways would complete the ground and the lamps lit. It quit that altogether. No issue. I know my way in, dark and all.

Well Carl,... My problem is, I'm a little on the bulky side for the size of the cockpit. The console cover hinges are on the frail side and the latch does offer a little stability to counter my overbearing clumsiness.
