I did some work on my three fan relays last night. Pulled them out, cleaned the contacts and then replaced. Also cut out the wiring for the old amplifier as it is no longer used, replaced by new aftermarket one. All has worked well in the past. But now, with the key turned all the way on I can't get any blowers to work at any speed. Engine off I was able to get the blowers to work in the past. My wiring diagram only shows the three wires at cords H7/8 going off to the A/C circuitry (139). Is there a wiring diagram for the Delaniar somewhere I can get ahold of? Many thanks ahead of time.
Didn't mean to leave Doug out. Yes, he is a MAJOR resource and contributor!!
I only cut the wires at the old unused amplifier. You can see it in the attached pic. Did I cut something I shouldn't have?? Also in the pic... Any idea what that relay is with the arrow pointing to it?
I can't find it on the wiring diagram but I know it's got something to do with the A/C cause it clicks when turning on the right hand mode knob.
According to my 70s vintage Delanair Mk II manual the system used a stand-alone 'low speed' relay in conjunction with a 3-in-1 'main relay'; that is, 3 relays in one box. At some point in Series II production this arrangement was replaced with a 4-in-1 relay. The parts catalog gives the VIN breakpoints.
Series II. Driver's cheek plate removed. That's why you only see three relays for three blower speeds. All the wiring diagrams I got from the aforementioned post were for Series III's.
Doug - now I'm confused. When I manually pick the three relays, one at a time, I get Low, Med, and High speeds from the blowers. How does the Hella round relay fit in this scheme? Any ideas?

Then maybe there's a lower than Low speed. Does that mean I have a four speed? Nothing happens when that picks. I'm still trying to get that relay out of there so I can pull the can and clean the contacts. My electrical experience from 1st and 2nd generation computers (way back when) says that most problems are a result of bad electrical contacts - relays, connectors, plugs/jacks, etc. I've been going through the whole car with dielectric grease and burnishing tools where appropriate.
As I recall, if the mode control is set to 'Auto", the fastest speed will come one only if max cooling is called for and the lowest speed will come on only if the system has stabilized in blend mode.
yes, Delanairs have 4 speeds. Speed number 4 is what I call Hurricane Force Winds. It is a wonderful system. Replace the single relay and see if anything happens.
