Default Door “S” tension piece

My driver’s door appears to be missing the sort of S-shaped metal “pipe” that rubs against the “door nut” to enable the door to stay open. See picture of the passenger side, which has one, below (you can only see part of it in the picture). Random piece to be missing lol.

Can anyone tell me what this piece is called, and if the door needs to be removed to install a new one?

thank you!

My XJ-S is like that. Looks like the same part. The S shaped part is the spring that hold the door open. Its part of the top hinge assembly and not available separately. Mine broke, the pieces are there but no longer connected. You'll have to remove the hinge to replace it. Can probably do it with the bottom hinge attached, but make sure to support the door securely while you work.

Interesting - thank you! I'm checking with David, and also looks like there are a bunch of hinges for sale on ebay.
