Default which drive belt for 85 4.2 injection engine

HI All, wondered if anyone has bought belts from SNG Barratt,

they have 3 differnet alternator belts - 825mm, 850mm, and 887 mm - does anyone know which is the right one for my engine? ... not sure how I find out!?

whilst mine look okay ish, no service history from elderly previous owner so planning on changing them out as a precaution!

thanks for your help,

Al.

just remove the belt you want to replace and go to your local auto parts to get it matched by style of belt and diameter. That is what I do. There is no science to it, no special "Jaguar" belts. The company GATES makes reliable belts but all belts will need replacing at some point.

I buy from SNG Barratt all the time, from their USA store. But some parts like belts ? I go to my local auto parts store.
You can also check with many other Jaguar parts sources who ship to UK.

From my scrapbook notes.

All the S2 and the one only S3, used the same belt = 13A0875 = 875mm.

Like Jose, I did the match and see at first.

SNG have always treated me spot on.

ok thanks guys, that confused me as you mentioned another size, but the helpful chaps at SNG looked it up from my vin number for me and said 825mm for me

I would do what you suggest of taking off the existing one and taking it to an autoparts store, but in the UK there's a bit of a dearth of decent local stores now, as everything's gone online with a couple of big players like Eurocarparts buying up smaller ones and going very regional, and they really only focus on mainstream or <20 year old stuff that they can turn over really quickly, so you are left with online ordering from specialists really here!

When I had a classic Merc if was possible to go to a couple of their parts counters around London and get pretty much anything off the shelf for any car no matter how old, I even bought a couple of wings for a 25 year old SL straight from the local Merc main dealer, who then delivered it to my local body shop for me! Having said that their parts prices were pretty crazy sometimes! Jaguar seems to be developing their classic parts site online, and parts are much better value than Merc! Hope they keep going with developing the range in there too and particularly the parts diagrams which are so useful for hopeless amateurs like me!

Aye. a time ago, I needed a v belt. Had a haeck of a time finding a pace with a good choice!!! Each shop told me. Just too many sizes to stock

Way back when I worked at a full service station we were pressed to sell stuff as we checked oil and water and air. fan belts!! Twist most and demonstrate the beat up inside part. Sell one we had a great supply hanging on the wall. ...
