Default Can't get Serp. belt back on

Guys,
i had to replace my alternator last week, which was a blast! But now I can't get the serpentine belt back on? I don't know if the new alternator pulley's is bigger or what..... The alternator was purchased at advanced auto parts and it's an ND unit, like the original 1 that failed....
Thanks for any info. ideas
Dean

Hi Dean,
Not trying to teach your Granny to suck eggs but, have you made sure the belt is fitted correctly and did you slacken the tensioner when refitting the belt.

Just a thought.

I found I had to slip the belt on the pully without a lip - either the tensioner or idler pully, I forgot which one. Good luck!

Guys,
Thanks for the rapid replies, and I should of stated that it's a 97' just in case it makes a difference. It's fitted properly, and only pulley that I have that doesn't have a lip on it is the tensioner pulley? And this is also the old belt, not a new 1.
Thanks,
Dean

Just try harder.

I suppose you did not replace the belt and use the existing one? That should be easier than a new belt.

Try some soap on the belt and pulley to get it slide over the pulley easier

J,
Great idea about the soap. I have been trying too hard, I snapped off the 13mm tensioner bolt last week, (Which you CAN'T buy from Jag or anywhere that I could find) and I had to buy a NEW tensioner pulley! Which I don't want to do again, hence me asking the experts, (You guys! )
