Default Fuel Consumption - 1985 XJ6

Hello,

Please is it normal for 1985 XJ6 Series 3 to burn/consume 6 gallons within a mile?

1. If not normal, what is wrong and what should do to prevent this from keep happening?

2. If normal, what can i do reduce the consumption?

I just restored this car which since 2006 been packed unused.

Please help.

Mike

Seems way out to me. 14/L per 100 km for me is normal. I would be looking for a leak in the system.

I assume you mean 6 miles per gallon? Definitely excessive. Mine ('87) gets about 13 around town and only if I drive gently (which I never do - only my wife has been able to get that number - I usually see about 11). US gallons.

Measure reversal !!! For sure, but, eve 6 miles tot he gallon is excessive.

1. Make sure the measure is accurate. I have my doubts.

2. If so, do the archives check on "over fueling".

Definitely excessive, I'd agree. I'd suspect that it's not accurate. You'd be seeing big clouds of black smoke if it was really that thirsty!

My V12 does 11. Put 10 gal in it when the low gas light comes on and hit the trip reset, then check it when the light comes back on.

not normal. Do you smell any gasoline anywhere outside or inside the car?
