Does anyone know if there is a sock or filter of any sort on the pickup tubes in the fuel tanks???
I am getting some fuel delivery issues when running on right tank, engine starts to surge over 5000rpms, runs great on left tank all the way to 6400 redline!
I have installed prefilters before the fuel pump, and just changed those as well, but no change!
wondering if it’s time for new tanks, or just gunk blocking a sock!!!

That looks like it’s just on the drain plug, which means nothing on the actual pickup tube or fuel line from tank to pump?

The drain plug is there obviously, , but the filter is there too. The pick up tube goes into the top of the filter, you can see the picture shows it has a hole at the top. On my 1980 XJ6, the filter was made of very fine metal gauze, the later ones may be plastic.

The ones I received from SNG Barret were plastic.

The fitting has two plugs, essentially. There is the small one, that you can use to drain the tank, and the larger one that secures the filter in position. Access is via the hole on each quarter-panel. These are covered by black plastic plugs. I was doing a big job on my car, (new bootfloor, rear valance, and 1/4panels, so the 1/4panels were off at the time. When I put the new ones on, I left off the blanking plugs so it would be easier to drain the tanks. Of course, you're risking thieves helping themselves, but most of them don't know anything about Jaguars, fortunately.

Rather ironic- the big cat has lockable twin fillers, but the fuel is easily drained using a 9/16" wrench! Just saying........

Good, isn't it !
Here in the UK, it's mostly diesel that gets stolen now.

Just to show what's in the tank, here's one that I cut open years ago...
The filter is directly above the drain, but does push up on the fuel supply line. Sometimes when you remove the drain plug it comes right out, other times it takes a pretty good tug to get it to drop out.
If that filter is clogged, you may need to flush the tank too... May have some debris in it..... You can have a look inside with the fuel level sending unit removed (once the tank is empty)...
