Hood ornament placement on my 86 Xj6
I just bought a 1986 Jaguar XJ-6, and she does not have a hood ornament. I bought one, but do not know where EXACTLY to place it. Any help please? I do not want to put it too far back or too far foreward. Thank you!!!!!!
I put one on my 76, too. When you lift the hood, towards the front, you'll probably see a double piece of metal (towards the grille). Make sure that the big nut that holds the Leaper on goes just behind that (towards the cab of the car). That's the best place for it. Other than that, I just put it where I thought it looked good.
The pictures should be self-explanatory. If you look at the last three, you'll see the edge of metal under the hood I was talking about. I measured from the edge of the hood closest to the windshield to the edge of that piece of metal under the hood, then measured on top of the hood. Drilled my pilot hole, made sure it was where I wanted it (I got lucky on the first try...lol), then bored it out to be the proper size based on the template I got with my Leaper.

The first two pictures are prior to putting the Leaper on. The second two (I took tonight) are with the Leaper in place.
Notice, also (between the second and third pictures) the addition of the fog lamps.
Sexy, in my humble opinion. Have yet to get em working...lol.

Thank you for the help! I also heard about 5" from the grill, and also, the nose of the leaper just behind the growler on the grill. Your pictures will help alot. I will post more pictures of my car as the restoration progresses
