Default How do you remove the Air Injection Rail

I'm doing a stakedown kit install and I've gotten the cam cover off but I can see that a pipe from that Rail is going to get in the way when I put the cover back. The nuts look like there is a locking nut on top of a longer nut but both are down low where I can't cleanly get a wrench on them. I presume I need to hold the bottom still while spinning the locking nut free, but again I can only get a wrench on there at an acute angle and I am worried about twisting or breaking the rail.

Any tips?

I removed it to clean it and paint it. Not difficult. First remove the asbestos heat shield by removing the two nuts and half shells from one side. Tap the studs if stuck in place. Then loosen all the top ferrules or "nuts" until you can raise them completely away from the bottom fittings which will remain in place. No need to hold the bottom fittings unless they are loose. Once the ferrules are freed, tap the rail from the bottom up front, center, and rear until it comes off. The Brass seals remain on the nipples.

I used one of these to get at those deep down nuts.

exactly. you also attach a 6" extension to the claw and then a ratchet to loosen each ferrule. That is also what I used.

Well if the second nut is spinning, it really doesn't matter. Which comes loose just pull those out using an open ended wrench at an angle, or a crows foot. I got all mine out with a regular wrench. It is kind of a funny angle but these aren't on all that tight. Read angle as in the wrench is not in plane with the nut, rather oriented up and away from it.

If some of the pieces stuck together you will be free to use two wrenches with the rail off.
