Does anyone know what kind of a job it is to replace an Ignition Amplifier on a 1985 XJ6?
I had some work done at a dealership and the car died when my wife was driving it home. After it was towed back to the dealership, they said they could find no problems, it started up and worked fine. They said the only thing they could think of is that the Ignition Amplifier MIGHT need to be replaced, however, it is working fine at the present time and they cannot guarantee that replacing it would solve any problem.
The car has only 24,000 miles on it and is in "as new" condition. The problem is it has only been driven about 200 miles in the last 20 years and that's to and from the dealership to have the gas drained and have it restarted.

Hmm, sounds like you need to "recommission" the car despite its low miles as your post seems to indicate you have just bought this "time machine". Lucky you for finding and buying such a low mileage, mint condition car.
First off, check the fuel filters (one in-line to fuel rail, one gauze type in each tank). Lots of other things to do, brake fluid for a start, but it's late and my bed time. Doug Dwyer will no doubt post with lots of very good advice.

The ignition amplifier is situated at the front end of inlet manifold x2 bolts with 2 wires going to the coil ; it is about the size of a cigarette packet 10 minutes to change.
Fraser is wright I would also be checking fuel filters as a start.
Sounds like a nice car good luck
Cheers Ray
