Default Jaguar XJ6 4.2 Project

Hi All
A little story from Denmark.
I bought this Jaguar in November 2012. It looked okay with a little rust to be seen no big deal.
But I keep forgetting it's all ways only the top of the iceberg you can see!!
Here is some pictures. And if you guys want more?
Just let me know!

Keep them coming. I know very little about welding, and less about good bodywork. I would love to see this moving along.

Welcome Bunzel, looks like a big project it seems like you're doing it right. I've brought some rusty cars back from the dead and its always a challenge.

Also, wanted to let you know I love your Akvavit!

Agreed. After seeing the pre inspection shots I think all of us got a little worried about the car in our own garage.

yes! It is incredible what black paint and body sealing can do.

It tricked me completely

Clearly you are a glutton for punishment ! Well done so far, and I hope it's worth it in the end. ONe good thing with these cars is all the panels are fairly small so easy to swap out compared to cars with one-piece bodysides.

Back in the early 90s, I replace boot floor and rear valance, 1/4 panels, sills/closing panels, front wings and front valance. Also repaired back of rear wheel arches and put a used boot lid on too. Apart from that little lot, I rebuilt the engine around an uncracked block, and tidied up the engine compartment. Total spend over 14 years ownership was £14k or £1000 per annum average. I must have been mad in those days !! My missus certainly thought so, but at least always knew where I was at night.

Thanks Fraser and I hope be worth it in the end too.
My estimate I'll be spending around £15k totally, before I'll be finished.

But we say in Denmark the only difference between boys and men is the price of their toys.

S. Bunzel:

As to men and boys and the price of their toys, we say that as well. I think it is universal!!

Very nice car and very much worth fixing and saving.

I read Auto Restorer. The current running articleis of a mid 70's MBZ roadster. Shiny side magnificent. Underside, wowee, makes your look pristine.

It is now stripped to a tub and on a rottisierre getting massive work done, and discovering horrible prior work.

Most certainly a labor of love. The only way to justify it is to drive and enjoy.

I am so fortunate as my 83 is almost rust free. Just a tiny bubble on one front wing. And, it hasn't changed since I got the car in 2001. Too tiny to justify messing with it.

Man that's some good looking body work...

It's not an easy task getting those sills and rear radius supports cutout... Can't even imagine trying to get them back in correctly...

Cheers

Thanks for the update. Any time for on-the-road, or is it early days yet ?

Have you checked out the engine yet ?

Great work. It's a pleasure to follow your progress in pics.

Good luck with 'side 2'.

Yes I drove the car 300 km home when I bought it in November. It's was runnig okay.
But in January I took the spark plug out and filled engine oil in all cyclinder's.

I will disassembly the engine and check bearings, pistons and ect. before I put the car back on the road Again.

Great work. Owners in britain and europe restore cars that in australia would be sent to the crusher without a moments thought. Few people here have the abaility or inclination to fix and weld up rusty panels. In my experience
