Lightning Bolt icon on dash stays illuminated??

Hey Folks,
I'm new to this forum and am to jags mechanically. My uncle recently gave me his 1987 xj-sc and haven't had many problems with it. However, I rarely drive it. Recently, the lightning bolt icon came on on the dash and stays illuminated when the car is off. It seems to be draining the battery. I know that there is a battery icon and would assume that pertains to the battery charge as well as the alternator. I replaced all the fuses to see if there was a short and i think i found them all. Due to the light staying on once the car is shut off, I have had to park the car with the + battery terminal disconnected. How do I go about fixing this?? Any suggestions???

Most likely a defective diode in the alternator. You can buy a rebuilt alternator or have yours fixed at a local starter-alternator repair shop....most towns have one.
