I sent you a PM, just so you didn't think you were being ignored. For some reason you can only post short replys on these forums.

F77, I don't think anyone has to be rich, much less very rich to own one of these cars. Granted the later cars may be better because of their younger age, but, with proper maintenance, the earlier Series III cars are very reliable. Most of the faults with these cars come from previous owners lack of maintenance. As far as being a lot cheaper, a really nice Series III can be found for less than $3000.00. And with DIY, maintenance is far simpler on the 4.2 cars. Just my opinion.

The series 3 is not that bad of a jag people that dont know them have a hard time fixing them I have owned 2 one 85 and a 87 vdp in the north east they rust away the trans is too small for the car but if you drain the pan with every oil change the fluid will hold up and not burn the rear brks are a little hard to do but not that bad the motor will run for ever some of the 87 had some issues with the block closing up at about 60 to 70 thou miles and cause rear main seal to pour out the drip it is a rope seal what else do you want to know Steve

Steve I agree with you periods and other punctuation are far overrated sometimes i think that sentences should never end and just keep on going and going and going -

I love my series III - if maintained, they are very reliable. I spend far more time pissing with my AJ- V8 than my good ol' 4.2. The engine is solid. There seems to be a lot of electrical issue that keep arising, but that my not be the case with "garaged" cars - this one spent a lot of time sitting outside. good luck with your decision.
