Just one more vote YAY for the series 3. I have a series 3, two series one's, and an XJ40 and the best by far was the series 3!

Default Tpa

Yeah I bit the bullet with my 86 VDP and took all the cracked TPA completely off - down to bare metal. On some of the flat horizontal surfaces that had cracks / crazing - water had seeped into those small cracks and created a light surface rust showing the same pattern on the bare metal as the cracks in the TPA, prior to paint removal.

I took the opportunity to repair the windscreen channels and small surface dings that come about in parking lots. Also removed the side protector mouldings from the sides of the car.

Its a big job...

I repainted with PPG base coat /clear coat - Sage Green Metallic - original color.

Insides of panels (wings) and inside the rear wings where the gas tanks live... I applied POR 15 - will never rust now. WIndscreen channels got the same POR 15 treatment.

I think it's the reverse, actually. Mine feels much older than most other cars from the '80's, for all that new fangled fuel injection. More like something from the '60's.

Still, it has that magical 6 shock velvet ride that only my XJ-S can equal and you can't beat the looks of it. Wonderful cars if you like comfort, style and a high level of driver involvement.
