Need help, Buying 1988 xj6 VDP.
Hows everyone doing? This would be my first Jaguar and i really dont know anything about the cars. I do have some wrenching abilities so im not to afraid of that aspect. But just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers or heads up on any known problems. Ive copied the link to the page, check it out and tell me if its a good deal or not. I have not seen the car in person but it looks very nice and the dealer selling it has been anwering all of my questions which is a good sign. Any help is much appreciated, i just want to make sure im making the right move.
Sincerly
Carson
I also included a few pictures they sent me not on the web page.

I had a 1988 sovereign for twenty years ... traded it for a near new xj6.
Guess that is a kind of endorsment. Lovely car that gave me great joy and a few minor headaches. It was still going fine at 200,000 klms and apart from oil leaks from various point and occasional sensor problems it was just great. I still miss it although I dont have as much oil on the garage floor these days.
Probably not a help to you as I am no mechanic just a fan of that period and got a good one!

Don't forget to check the original post date, this is an oldie from 2006. I guess there's not a lot of threads in this section, and going through the pages of older threads takes you back pretty quick!
Nice to hear some XJ40 appreciation, though. A lot of people aren't too fond of them. I think they did a decent job with the mechanicals. Looks maybe could have been better, but those who own them fall in love it seems.
