Default neutral safety switch replacement process

Hello, I’m curious about the process of replacing the neutral safety switch in my 1986 XJ6 (BW66). Is it easily accessible, or does the transmission need to be dropped? I’m planning to replace my transmission, and I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to replace the neutral safety switch while I have the transmission out. It appears to be working correctly, but if it’s a significant job, I’d prefer to do it simultaneously.

It's been decades for me but I recall it just slides off the selector shaft after removing the hold-down nut.

Is a new part available? If not, stick with what you have. A used one isn't likely to be better than what you already have

Cheers

Nice! There is a new one available. I’m not super confident in the quality, though. I’ll probably stick with what I have. Thanks for your input!
