Default Noisy front struts

Hi everyone,
i changed the fronts last year. Originally I kept the original cork or foam washers that mount up but I noticed they were noisy so I swapped them out with the rubber ones that came with the new ones. Still make a sort of clank or thump sound on some bumps. How tight should I be cranking the nut that holds the shock in the engine bay?

You could always try making it a little more tight.
maybe a ball joint? jack up the front, grab the wheel at 12 and 6 and try and wobble it.

Jord....

Your description of the isolaters on he upper shock mounts bothers me a bit. Odd. Mine and every other similar installation use a two simple black rubber parts.

Look carefully, the upper one has a shoulder. The smaller circumference goes down into the opening in the metal tower. Then a metal washer. And, yes, the nut must be quite tight to keep things in place and prevent the metal shaft of the dampener away from the metal of the chassis.

like Carl said, plus:

the first nut is tightened by grabbing the flattened ends of the strut's shaft with an adjustable wrench, while tightening the nut with an open-end spanner.

the second nut secures the first one from backing off.

to tighten the second nut, you use 2 open-end spanners, one holding the first one from moving, one to tighten the second over the first.
