Default Odd Start?

So I picked up a sweet 86 XJ6, there's been a couple minor problems that have been fixed, but one that I don't understand, is that the you have to start the car in nutral. Is this normal and has anyone had this problem?

Nope and yes

Your neutral switch/reverse light switch needs adjusting most likely. Easy:

Adjusting Backup Lamp Switch, Series III XJ6

(Some of the switches were not made with a bolt hole that allows adjustment. Easy fix. Remove the switch and elongate the hole)

I should add that the above write up is for adjusting the switch for correct reverse light operation. The exact same principle applies when adjusting it to allowing starting in "P". It the same switch. Rather than finding the sweet spot in "R" you simply use the same procedure to find the sweet spot in "P"

Hey guys, I am coming back to this problem, I never actually fixed it haha, but where exactly is the neutral starter switch? I've decided to fix this myself, rather than taking it into a shop.

On your car it's on the left side of the transmission
