Oil Refilling Procedure
Hello, apologies in advance for what I'm sure is a silly question.
My 83' XJ6 leaks oil - no surprises there. It does so at a fairly low rate, so I carry a quart and a funnel in the trunk.
When refilling, do I simply place the funnel onto the circled receptacle in the attached image and pour the quart (or part of) in?
Am I missing a step?
Just want to be 100% sure I'm putting things where they should be
Thanks.

Yes. Is the leak definitely engine oil?
I know you said a quart "or part of", however a whole quart is a lot of top-up, add in small increments until the level is a fraction below the "full" mark on the dipstick.

You're correct as to where to pour your oil, but don't pour too much in at one go as it takes some seconds to flow down into the sump. At some point, rather than whacking out on oil, why not see where all this oil is exiting. Advice can be given on this forum as to the best way of sorting out the various leaks.
If it's an '83, it is likely the inlet valve guide seals are past their best, so you;ll be burning some oil as well as losing it via leaks.

yes, that is the oil filler Cap. Remove the cap, place the funnel end inside the opening and while holding it, pour 20W40 mineral oil very slowly. I don't use Synthetic oil, it leaks like crazy.
