I got my wife a toy. Its a project, but will be a dependable driver as is. Problem is......it has a 350 Chevy. Let the haters hate.

Looks like a clean series 1 you got there. Was it a V12 originally? Has the V12 grill I notice. Shame about the 350 but hey... whatever gets you thru the night. And what's with the front bar overiders, are they home made? Good luck with the project. Post some more pics when you can. Davo

Looks good in white. I hope it is as clean as it looks in the pic.

Those overriders were 1973 only, usually with a molded rubber insert piece (look close at my signature photo).

Yes, V12 car. 1973. The interior is passable, but its one of the first things on the list. The exterior is very clean but not perfect. It has been in the warehouse of a car museum since the early '90s. I got it from a guy who bought it when they auctioned everything off. We're going to make a very nice car out of it, then get stupid with the V8.

Congrats...that's one nice looking classic Jag. Chevy 350 isnt a problem at all. Just think of all the upgrades available to make it as you wish.

A very nice car, and I generally don't like white cars. This one just looks good in white!!

Is it a carb'd Chevy or FI. OD trans or merely 3 speed ?

Probably had a really sick V12 and the Chevy saved a nice car from Jaguar Heaven. There is such a place near Stockton, CA. Mine expired near there and may have returned as a resident!!

Now powered by an LT1 from a Cadillac Fleet wood Brougham and OD trans. Just an elegant Chevvy!! I liked it as a DOHC 6. But, it sure is a nice combination. The 2.88 rear ratio plus the .70 Od and the guts to pull it make it a freeway flyer. Low 1st and lots of torque and it gets underway with alacrity.

I call it English elegance with an Italian flare and American power!!

That is a keeper for a car. However powered.

Thanks everyone. My brother just searched the numbers and it appears to be a '73 400 c.i.d. truck four bolt main engine with '64 to '71 Corvette Rams horn exhaust manifolds.

If you are like me you will want to put the nice looking pre-1973 overriders on your 1973 front bumper. Well, I just tried it last night and they will not fit without cutting away some of the frame hanging below the bumper. I guess they added that bit of extra frame for 1973. I just thought I would mention it.

Great looking car.

Always good to see one that hasn't dropped to bits from rust.

Great looking machine. Though I prefer the Jag engines in these, I've used Rover 3.5 liter V8s in an MGB and a Triumph TR6 because both had blown engines. Some purists said I was the devil, but let's be honest, essentially the Brits did the exact same thing swapping engines at the facotry to see what would work and what wouldn't.

Both cars look really lovely, and you can see the style shining through. I have to say, though, that the old XJ looks a bit too high off the ground. Does the GM V8 weigh a lot less than the old Jag engine ? I would have thought the Jaguar V12 weighed less, being aluminium.

Thanks, and I agree. It is a bit high. I think the tires are too tall. They are 205/75s. I havent had a chance to see what size belongs on this model. I will though in the next few weeks when I replace them.

Looks great, I have always thought the new xtypes look the most like a series 1, pretty much same body lines....I like the wheels, don't worry about having a reliable jag, I am finishing up a 350 tbi/4l60 swap into mine, with a removable fuel cell too. I also retired the whole car using a wire harness from a 93 Buick Roadmaster, only thing left I have to wire are the blower fans, then the engine is plug and play.
