I'm trying to locate the power window relay on my '81 XJ6. My Haynes manual is somewhat less the useful since it gives no locations and the wiring diagram doesn't match what I'm seeing on the car. I have no power to any of the window switches or the sunroof switches. Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

Under dash, right side, next to fusebox. There are three black circuit breakers, two terminals on each. One is for door locks, one is for right side windows, the other is for left side windows and sunroof (ok, so maybe the sunroof is with the right side windows, it's been a long time). A shorted window switch will burn up the breaker, if failed they must be replaced. Good used ones in stock if you need them.

By the way, you did make sure the master switch above the window switches on the center console was good, right?

 

Master switch is good, problem is just no power to circuit breakers-switches. If my diagram is correct the relay is before the circuit breakers in the system. Thanks for the info, I'll get back at it tomorrow.

 

Ok, if you have no powr to the breakers, look above them and to the right: you're looking for a round black Lucas relay, it should be the only one there. The round black thing below it is the low coolant warning light unit, that ain't it.

 

Relay was bad, swiped one from my parts car. Front windows and sunroof are working. I need to check the switches in the back seat for the rear windows because there's a short somewhere for those.
